Mt. Washington Volunteer Ski Patrol
The Mt. Washington Ski Patrol Association (MWSPA) has been contributing to public health and safety in the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island for nearly 40 years. Membership is now at over 50 volunteers from around Vancouver Island.
MWSPA is part of the Pacific Northwest Division of the National Ski Patrol. The Association supports the Mount Washington Alpine Resort with mutual efforts to ensure public safety in the mountain environment.
Members deliver year-round all-condition public safety services on and around Mt. Washington.
Services include trail and outdoor recreation safety, land search and rescue, emergency first aid, disaster relief, and emergency preparedness and prevention.
There are over 300,000 winter visits to Mt. Washington Alpine Resort annually.
Volunteers donate thousands of hours of labour annually to ensure a safe mountain environment.
Members are trained and adhere to the NSP's Outdoor Emergency Care Standard or to Occupational First Aid Level 3, as well as CPR-BLS.
Members annually re-qualify and regularly participate in additional training.
